Book Review: Zero by Morgan Dark

Scheduled to be released June 28th, I received an eARC of Zero by Morgan Dark from Spanish Publishing company Rubiños 1890 in exchange for an honest review. This book was quite the suspenseful thriller! Lots of action and intense plot twists!

zero.pngGoodreads synopsis:

A baffling robber.
A mystery hidden for years.
And an elite boarding school where no one is who they say they are.
Kyle Bradford is the envy of Drayton College, but everything takes a turn when a dangerous shadow, hidden in the darkness, starts to stalk him. From then on, his life falls apart. Unjustly accused of being the main suspect behind the robberies terrifying high society, he is forced to prove his innocence. And to do so, he has to find the real culprit: Zero, an infallible criminal who keeps his identity hidden under a silver mask. What Kyle does not know is that his enemy is keeping a secret. A secret he would sacrifice everything for. A dizzying, heart-stopping thriller you won’t be able to put down.

That synopsis really doesn’t do the book as much justice as it should. I’m not going to hash out a new one, but will move forward with my awesome sauce no spoilers review of it!

The book opens with a bang, and you’re immediately caught up in one of Zero’s robberies. This story kept me in so much suspense! I kept trying to figure out who Zero was the whole time and I was wrong at every turn! The author does an amazing job of building up this story and its characters to a wild revelation that I never saw coming! I am obviously not going to tell you who Zero is, but it is not who you expect at all!

The suspense is very well-written. I could not put this book down and almost knocked it out in one sitting, but had some adulting to do (I’m sure you all can relate), so I finished it in two sittings. I pride myself on being an immensely fast and voracious reader, but this book was so so so easy to read to begin with! I highly recommend this for everyone (adults and children), but especially for younger readers as I felt like it was so well-written that kids could easily grasp this. Definitely a PG rating for some quick moderate violent scenes and scenes with memories of death, but no sexual content or foul language that I can recall, so I think this would also be a great book for younger kids to read. IMG_4826.jpg

Something I’d like to suggest is that eventually this book be made into a graphic novel. It had all of the perfect elements with the scenes, characters, and action to translate really really well into a graphic novel illustration!

Although this book will be released in ebook format on the 28th, I would really really like to see this released in paperback so I could buy a copy for my brother. He doesn’t do the ereader thing or download any of the reading apps, but I feel like this is something that he would actually enjoy, and I’ll keep my fingers crossed for a paperback release of it!

Final Verdict: 5 shiny silver-masked stars!

I also highly recommend this to fans of Six of Crows. The plot was so similarly genius! It was really unpredictable, which is something that I loved most about it!
